Foundation Courses
Old Testament Survey (OTS): Write a 3-page report on any book of the Old Testament. Include important data such as historical background and important themes.
New Testament Survey (NTS): Write a 2-page report on any book of the New Testament. Include important data such as historical background and important themes.
Homiletics I (HOM1): Write a 1-page report on how the HOM1 class has impacted you, plus a 1-page reaction paper on Paul’s speech in Acts 17 (comment on his sermon outline and content).
Core Courses
Church History (CHH): Write a 2-page reflection paper on an important person or group in Church History.
The Book of Romans (ROM): Write a 2-page reflection paper on any of these sections of Romans: chs. 1-3, chs. 7-8, chs. 9-11.
Christian Apologetics (CAP): Choose any one of the following topics on apologetics and write your own 2-page argument in Christianity’s defense.
- The Reliability of the Bible
- The Truth of Miracles in the Gospels
- Evidence for Jesus
- The Importance of Faith
- The Need for The Christian Church
Paul’s Ministry and Message (PMM):
- Two-page reflection paper on Corinthians as a troubled church OR
- Two-page reflection paper on either of the ff. sections of Scripture: Acts 13-14 or 2 Corinthians 5-6.
Biblical Prophecy (BP): Choose one biblical Old Testament prophet and write a twopage report on the following: background of the prophet, general content of his message, personal highlights of his message.
Sound Doctrine and Church Discipline (SDCD): Choose a particular false doctrine (typically associated with a group or groups) and write a 2-page paper refuting it.
Elective Courses
The Bible and Archeology (BARC): Three-page research report on any topic discussed in class related to archeology.
The Letter to the Hebrews (HEB): Write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing passages in Hebrews whenever appropriate: predestination, the believer’s security in salvation, spiritual longevity, Jesus as our High Priest.
Psalms for Christian Living (PSA): Pick either two lament psalms or two wisdom psalms and write a 2-page reflection paper comparing your two chosen psalms with respect to: outline, emphasis, and impact on yourself. (Note that you must pick two psalms of the same type.)
The Letter of James (JAM): Write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing passages in James whenever appropriate:
- Biblical wisdom
- What it means to persevere
- Speech as a reflection of character
- The value of asking advice
- Living like Jesus everyday
Ezra-Nehemiah (EZN): Write a 2-page reflection paper on either Ezra or Nehemiah, focusing on one of the following: the structure of the book, the main character, or the role the book plays in the longer narrative of Israel.
Postexilic Prophets: Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi (PEP): Choose one of the three postexilic prophets and write a 2-page reflection paper on his message.
Prophets of the Exile: Ezekiel and Daniel (POTE): Choose either Ezekiel or Daniel and write a 2-page reflection paper on his message, keeping in mind the historical backdrop of the Exile.
The Book of Exodus (EXO): Write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing passages in Exodus whenever appropriate:
- How God reveals himself
- The Heart of the Law
- What is True Worship?
- God Desires Fellowship with Mankind
- Grace in the Old Testament
Paul’s Prison Letters (PPL): Choose one prison letter and answer the question, “What can I learn from this letter about Paul’s walk with God and relationships with people?”
The Book of Genesis (GEN): Write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing passages in Genesis whenever appropriate:
- The Power of God
- Abraham’s relationship with God
- Obedience in the Old Testament
Homiletics 2 (HOM2): Write a 1-page report on how the HOM2 class has impacted you, plus a 1-page reaction paper on the Sermon on the Mount (comment on this speech in terms of content and technique, e.g. imagery, exaggeration, irony, etc.). OR Compare the preaching of Paul at the synagogue at Antioch Pisidia (Acts 13:16-41) with the message to pagan Gentiles at Lystra (Acts 14:8-20) and at Athens (Acts 17:22-34). Read all three narratives along with the speeches, and then compare his sermon outline, content, and emphasis for each speech.
Marriage and Family I (MF1): Read Ephesians 5:22-33 in several translations. Write a two-page reflection paper on what this passage means to you personally.
Marriage and Family II (MF2): Review your class notes from the book “Shepherding a Child’s Heart.” Write a two-page reflection paper on what how this book impacts you personally. Mention biblical passages or principles as necessary.
Conflict Resolution (CRES): Choose ten Bible passages about the topic of conflict, conflict resolution, or forgiveness, and share your personal insights on each of the passages.
Regaining Emotional Health (REH): Review your class notes and write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing biblical passages whenever appropriate:
- Personal spirituality and relationships
- How a Disciple Grieves over a Loss
- God is a God of Relationships
- Forgiveness is a Choice
- How to Teach Children about Healthy Relationships
Building Healthy Relationships (BHR):
- Identify 5 things that Jesus did to build relationships and write a reflection paper. Minimum 2 pages. OR
- Write down your personal reflections on “Selfishness and Pride” (pp. 1-2 of
- the handout). Minimum 2 pages.
Leadership Development (LDEV): Review your class notes and write a two-page reflection paper on any one of the following topics, referencing biblical passages whenever appropriate:
- Jesus’s example of leadership
- Personal spirituality and leadership
- The importance of humility in leadership
- How to raise up leaders in a godly way
Emancipators Purity Course (EMAN): Choose eight Bible passages about purity or confession and share your personal insights on each of the passages.
