Two Basic Approaches
Expository – chose a passage, explain the context, draw a principle and application
Narrative – chose a narrative section, draw applications while going through the narrative
Expository Approaches
1. Episode – Principle – Application
2. Old Testament passage – NT expansion – Application
3. Problem – OT Solution – Application
E.g. Episode – Principle – Application
Title: “What Matters to God”
Hebrew Midwives – “God indicates true importance by naming the midwives but not Pharaoh”
Do you feel insecure? Seek value in worldly things?
1. Seek to please God first
2. Invest in things that truly matter
E.g. Episode – Principle – Application
Title: “On Eagle’s Wings”
Eagle’s Wings Speech – “God saves his people for greater things”
Do you remember how God rescued you? Do you see that God has a greater purpose?
1. Remember where you came from
2. Remember to reach out to others
E.g. Old Testament passage – NT expansion – Application
Title: “A Story to Warn”
Grumbling passage/s – 1 Cor 10:1ff “Things were written down to warn us”
Do we listen to warnings? We can neglect warnings.
1. Don’t let trials lead to sin.
2. Don’t let victories make you lax.

Do you ever feel alone, tired or frustrated?…
Victory over Amalek (or Jethro’s advice)
God ensured the victory through teamwork.
- Be aware that God is always moving.
- Be humble to let others help you.
- Be patient until God gives the victory.
